Generative AI is a rapidly developing technology with many new products and services. Students and researchers need to be aware that there are copyright, academic integrity, and technology compliance implications to using these tools.

Copyright and Permissions of Library and Archival Materials

Most materials in the Stephen B. Luce Library and SUNY Maritime College Archives are copyrighted. Many AI tools require the copyright holder to give consent for the materials to be used in this way. If you need assistance determining the copyright holder or the access permissions of library or archival materials, please email library@sunymaritime.edu.

Academic Integrity

The use of generative AI tools and academic integrity should be addressed in a course's syllabus. Please refer to the syllabus or to your instructor for their policy on using generative AI tools.

IT Compliance

Using a SUNY Maritime email address to sign-up for a free or paid tool that has not been vetted by Information Technology may violate New York State, SUNY, and college technology policies. To verify to status of a product, please contact the IT Help Desk.
